There Is Power in Surrender
As I reflect on the past year, the Lord reminded me of a scripture, Proverbs 21:1 “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord…”
There is such power and comfort in knowing that God is in control of everything.
This scripture has carried me through seasons when life felt unfair and when people didn’t treat me the way I believed I deserved. Even then, I found peace in knowing that the hearts of people are in my Father's hands. Nothing happens outside His awareness. Nothing moves without His permission. Through my hardest seasons, I’ve learned that God often allows certain situations not to break us, but to reveal His power and to show us what is happening inside of us.
Trials expose where our faith truly rests. They show us whether we trust God or whether we still lean on ourselves. And if we’re honest, relying on ourselves can feel easier. Especially when self-dependence is all we’ve ever known. But surrender requires a new level of trust, trusting God to be your strength, provider, guide, and safety. This past year has been one of the most challenging seasons of my life. But even with the pain, I wouldn’t trade it. I learned so much about God, about myself, and about spiritual warfare.
Waging a Good War
We often forget that we’re in a spiritual fight and that we’ve already won.
Victory isn’t based on our efforts. Jesus secured victory at Calvary. The great exchange was this:
He became what we couldn’t be and paid a price we couldn’t afford so that we could live in victory. But many of us still live defeated because we don’t fully believe what God said. If we don’t believe it, we can’t live it.
Where Pride Sneaks In
Surrender begins with acknowledging that God is Lord.
But pride often shows up in subtle ways: “Why me?”
“I don’t deserve this.”
“This shouldn’t be happening to me.”
Those thoughts feel innocent, but they position us above God.
They lead to entitlement, a dangerous mindset that removes us from surrender.
Entitlement is ultimately the belief that we know better than God.
Surrender says, “God, you are in control, even when I don’t understand.”
The Power of True Surrender
Here is the truth I hold onto:
If my Father allowed it, He already has a solution for it. That alone is power. No weapon formed against you will prosper not because the weapon never forms, but because the Creator of the weapon and the one forming it are still under God’s authority. Think about Daniel in the lion’s den. He didn’t resist. He didn’t argue. He surrendered, and God shut the mouths of lions. The same is true for us. Your greatest strength isn’t in fighting your way out, it’s in surrendering your way through. So today, I speak to you and to myself:
There is power in surrendering to the One to whom you belong.
