The Cost of Not Knowing Who You Are in Christ

The moment I knew I had changed was the moment I was faced with a situation where I had to choose myself and I did, without any regret. Being cultivated in an environment that doesn’t align with the purpose God has for your life will cause you to settle in every area of your life. As I reflect over my life, my relationships, and certain decisions I made, I’ve come to realize that many of those decisions were rooted in fear or survival.

This is why I will forever stress the importance of knowing who you are in Christ. So many people limit themselves because they don’t realize they were created for far more than what they’ve settled for. Now, don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that once you know who you are in Christ you won’t face problems. That’s not the case at all. What I am saying is that life becomes much clearer when you know who you are versus when you don’t. When you don’t know who you are, you will settle for things that appear to be good, only to later realize they are draining and unproductive to the calling on your life. One thing I believe the enemy does extremely well is create distractions around you that make you think you’re walking in God’s alignment, only for you to discover later, after investing so much time and energy, that it was never part of God’s plan for you. When you truly know who you are in Christ, decision-making becomes clearer. Anything that doesn’t align with your values, morals, and identity in Him becomes easier to recognize as something that likely isn’t from God.

What I’ve found in my own life is that when I wasn’t clear about who I was, I moved through life trying different things that never really served me. I stayed busy with many things, but when I evaluated the fruit of those things, there was nothing truly fulfilling or lasting which is often a sign that God isn’t in it. See, the thing about God is this: He will prosper what He has ordained for you, not what you’ve ordained for yourself. Many times we assume something is for us simply because it looks good or sounds good. But I’ve learned that every good thing isn’t God, and every bad thing isn’t from the devil. When you know what God has created you to do, clarity comes. The people you’re meant to partner with and the things you’re meant to do will feel aligned and sustainable. But the things you assign yourself to without God will eventually drain you and rob you of your peace.

The truth is, clarity about who you are in Christ changes everything. It shifts the way you see yourself, the way you make decisions, and the things you are willing to tolerate in your life. When your identity is anchored in Him, you no longer chase things simply because they look good you pursue what aligns with the purpose God placed inside of you. And when you begin walking in that clarity, peace becomes your compass. Anything that consistently drains you, confuses you, or pulls you away from who God is calling you to be is often a sign that it may not belong in your life.
